Q.
The TV did not come with printed instruction manual. How can I get one?
A.
The User’s Manual is on the CD-ROM disc in your package. You can open the PDF with Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is also included in the CD. You can manually browse to the contents of the CD and open the PDF file manually. You can also download the User’s Manual from http://www.olevia.com/en-us/Support.aspx.
Q.
I plugged in the power cord and pressed the power button on the front of the TV but there is still no power.
A.

There is a master Power Switch next to the power cord receptacle, make sure that this switch is on the on position and the blue LED in the front is illuminated.

Note: the switch in the rear of the TV is in the on position when the line is depressed.

Q.

Q.
Why does my TV display "No Signal" or "Channel not in List"?

Channel search needs to run the very first time of use or after the default settings are loaded from the OSD menu. The following steps will guide you through the process.

  1. Press Source button until Tuner is visible on the upper right corner,
  2. Press Menu button from the remote,

  7. Wait until the process is complete then you will be able to select the channel you like to watch.
Q.
Why do I still see black bars on my widescreen TV when viewing certain widescreen DVDs and HDTV broadcasts?
A.
The aspect ratio of HDTV is 16:9 (1.78:1). However, movies are filmed at several different aspect ratios, including 2.35:1. Anything with a wider aspect ratio still requires the use of letterboxing ("black bars") to fit the entire image on screen. Some TVs and DVD players have a zoom function that allows you to blow up the image so it fills the screen, but the sides of the image will be cropped.
Q.
Do I need any additional equipment to watch HDTV broadcasts on my HDTV-compatible LCD TV?
A.
In order to view over-the-air (OTA) HDTV broadcasts, you need to be within the reception area of a TV station broadcasting HDTV signals. An LCD TV with ATSC tuner built-in also is able to receive HDTV broadcasts without an HDTV tuner set-top box. Your cable or satellite provider may also offer HDTV channels as a part of its service, eliminating the need for a separate tuner and antenna. To see which local HD channels you may receive please visit www.antennaweb.org
Q.
How do I connect my audio cables when using the VGA input?
A.
  1. Make sure you are using a Mini-Stereo-to-RCA-Cable (also called a 3.5mm or mini jack). The RCA connections on the cable may be Red and White (or Red and Black depending on where you purchase the cable).
  2. There may be several Audio ports on the TV. So, its important to find the Red and White Audio In ports that are next to the VGA connection on the TV.
  3. Connect your Mini-to-Stereo-RCA-Cable from the Audio OUT port on the PC to the Audio IN ports on the TV (Red connector on the cable connects to the Red port on the TV, White connector to the white port on the TV).
Q.
How do you use picture in picture (PIP)?
A.

Most Olevia LCD TVs 37” and larger offer Picture in Picture (PIP) capability. Unless otherwise stated your TV is a single tuner LCD TV with PIP capability which allows you to watch a television channel and another video source such as a VCR or DVD player or two video sources such as a VCR or DVD player when you set the TV to the PIP mode. A single tuner LCD TV that has PIP capability has only one television tuner and can only tune in one TV channel at a time. Consequently, you cannot watch two television channels at the same time when you set the TV to PIP mode. You can watch one channel and another video source using PIP, one in the main screen and the other in the PIP window. To watch one channel and another video source, you must attach an antenna or a standard cable TV input to the Antenna jack on the TV and one or more video sources (a VCR, DVD player, PC, etc.) to the AV, S-Video, Component, HDMI or DVI input jacks.

The choices of which combination of video sources you can use at the same time for the main screen and the PIP window are limited. The choices you have depend upon the TV model you have. For a chart identifying the combinations that work for your TV, see your user's manual under the section titled Changing the View Modes.

Q.
I connected my PC to the TV, but I get no image, what should I do?
A.

Olevia recommends connecting your PC with a computer monitor first to re-configure a resolution of 1024 x 768 @ 60 Hz and then connecting to the Olevia LCD TV. Once your TV is displaying the image from your PC we recommended setting the PC to display the native resolution of the display.
Note: Native resolution refers to the physical amount of pixels within an LCD panel. (Horizontal x Vertical)

Q.
I have connected an external source to my television and I get no picture and or sound.
A.
Check for the correct output connection on the external source and for the correct input connection on the television. Make sure you have made the correct selection for the input mode for the incoming source. Check for the correct settings in the Audio Select menu on your television.
Q.
What is safe to use to clean the screen of my Olevia LCD TV?
A.

There are many new cleaning products on the market designed especially for LCD displays.  We recommend using a soft, lint-free cloth and a cleaner that contains any of the following:

  • LCD screen cleaning kit (purchased from your local electronics retailer)
  • Water
  • Vinegar (mixed with water)
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Windex mixed with water

Do not use cleaners that contain any of the following agents:

  • Acetone
  • Ethyl alcohol
  • Ethyl acid
  • Ammonia
  • Methyl chloride

Important:
Do not spray any liquids directly on the LCD screen. Always apply the solution to your cloth first, not directly to the parts you are cleaning. Always use a soft cotton cloth. Some materials, such as paper towels or old rags can cause scratches and damage the LCD screen.

Q.
What is your policy on defective Pixels?
A.

Syntax-Brillian Olevia LCD TVs are evaluated at a distance of approximately 50 centimeters (approximately 20 inches) between the LCD panel and the eyes of the user at a 90 degree viewing angle. All LCD panels have been tested to ensure they comply with our factory standards. Our evaluation is based on the number of defective pixels and the distance between any two defective pixels. Bright dots are dots that appear bright and unchanged in size when a LCD TV screen displays under a black pattern; dark dots are dots that appear dark and unchanged in size when a LCD TV screen is displayed under pure red, green, or blue patterns ("defective pixels"). Adjacent dots are dots located directly next to each other.

Customers are required to check their LCD panel immediately after purchase. To identify defective pixels, the LCD panel should be examined under normal operating conditions as mentioned above, preferably in its native display resolution, and with a 90 degree viewing angle.

A LCD TV will be considered dead on arrival (D.O.A.) with regard to defective pixels on the LCD panel when any one of the following criteria is met:

  • A total of 7 defective pixels including both bright dots and dark dots are present (the typical 30" LCD television screen has 16.7 million pixels), or
  • 2 or more pairs of adjacent bright dots are present, or
  • 3 adjacent bright dots are present, or
  • 3 adjacent dark dots are present.

In view of customers' concerns about dead pixels, Syntax-Brillian would like to address that defective pixels are not ultimately avoidable with current LCD industry standard panel manufacturing processes. We always strive to improve our technology and minimize the chance of occurrence of defective pixels by applying strict screening processes in our factory production processes.

Syntax-Brillian cannot guarantee that a return unit to our customers will be 100% free of defective pixels.

Q.
When watching my Olevia Television on some channels I get the incorrect audio or no audio at all. How can I solve this?
A.
Olevia LCD Televisions are capable of receiving SAP or Second Audio Programs available from TV stations. Some stations broadcast radio stations, weather, foreign language or nothing at all on this frequency. If your TV was mistakenly set to receive SAP, then you may be getting the wrong audio or no audio on some stations. To alleviate this problem access the MTS STATUS screen of your TV MENU and highlight STEREO instead of SAP. This should solve the problem.
